What is a Language Audit?
A language audit is a comprehensive and precise assessment of one’s proficiency in using a foreign language, whether it is an English, Swedish, German, or French language audit – it evaluates competence in four key areas: speaking, writing, listening comprehension, and reading. It’s worth noting that a language audit is not just a language test. Conducting an audit aims to prepare a detailed report that should encompass both an in-depth language proficiency diagnosis and appropriate guidance for the continued learning of a foreign language.
Assessment of Language Audit Results
The evaluation of candidates during language audits can be conducted on various scales, depending on the purpose and requirements of the recruitment process. The audit report can be binary (yes/no), checking the minimum language requirements for a given position, or it can involve an assessment of the presence or absence of basic language errors. The second assessment method is a numerical scale, allowing for a more detailed evaluation of language competencies. The third method is the descriptive approach, involving the allocation of descriptive ratings (this scale is more subjective), as well as international scales describing language competencies such as CEFR (A1, A2, B1, B2…) or GSE.
